In our Weslo Cadence R 5.2 treadmill review, we want to see just how well.

Weslo Cadence R 5.2 Main Features

This Weslo treadmill is a low-cost jogging equipment that is ideal for people who want to start incorporating cardio into their routine. With a 2.5 CHP drive system, a space saving clever design and a comfort cell deck, this entry level treadmill comprises the essentials of an affordable and reliable machine. It resembles the Weslo Cadence G 5.9 both in design and main features. As we mentioned in our Weslo Cadence G 5.9 treadmill review, these two treadmills have a lot in common.

The Weslo Cadence R 5.2 weighs around 118 lbs. It has a two-position adjustable incline, an LCD display and a 16 per 50-inch tread belt. The cell cushioning helps reduce the impact jogging puts on your joints, promising faster recovery and more enjoyable workouts. The Weslo Cadence R 5.2 treadmill also promises to offer a silent motor that cools the internal components while offering a sturdy platform for walking and jogging.

This treadmill can be found on several sites online, but the safest bet is Amazon. Weslo Cadence R 5.2 list price is $499, but you can save money by keeping an eye on special offers. Maintenance

Just like most treadmills out there, Weslo Cadence R 5.2 doesn’t call for special or complicated maintenance. You won’t need to lubricate the belt, but there are a few things you’ll want to do every now and then once you start using your treadmill. If the belt starts slipping, you can easily readjust it by using a hex key. It will only take you a couple of minutes to tighten the idler screws from the back of the running deck.

Warranty

The warranty of this Weslo treadmill is shorter than what you’d expect for a treadmill. The motor, parts and the labor are covered for 90 days, after which you are on your own.

Accessories

The Weslo Cadence R 5.2 treadmill doesn’t come with any accessories, so you’ll have to buy a belt lubricant and a flooring mat separately.

Recommended Routine

There are plenty of routines to choose from when it comes to jogging in your home gym. You should always take into consideration several factors like your weight, your endurance level and the number of calories you want to burn in a given day. If you’re a beginner, don’t expect to start running for 30 minutes straight, five days a week. To ease your way into it, alternate walking and light jogging for 30-40 minutes, depending on your endurance. Start by walking at 3 MPH for 5 minutes and then slowly increase the speed until your reach a comfortable level. Stay under 5.8 MPH and switch back and forth between running and walking. No interval should be shorter than two minutes, but if you feel out of breath, slow down and walk until you feel you can increase the speed again.

If you’re an advanced runner who’s short on time, you can get the best out of 30 minutes of interval running on your Weslo Cadence R 5.2 treadmill. Sprinting is great because it keeps you on your toes and you never get bored. Also, it’s more efficient than running for 60 minutes at a constant speed because slowing down and speeding up burns more calories. Alternate between 30 seconds of light jogging and one or one and a half minutes of running on the highest speed. Choose a level that you’re comfortable in and get ready to sweat.

Pros and Cons to Using the Weslo Cadence R 5.2

For a cheap treadmill, the Weslo Cadence R 5.2 promises quite a lot. And while this treadmill performs quite well, considering its price tag, you can’t expect the same level of performance as you would from a high-end, professional treadmill.

PROS:

  • Space Saver. The Weslo Cadence R 5.2 impresses through its foldable platform. This feature enables you to easily store away the machine when you’re not using it, freeing up space in your home gym. Once it’s folded up, Weslo Cadence R 5.2 is 28 inches wide and 23 inches deep.
  • Sturdy frame. What the Weslo Cadence R 5.2. treadmill lacks in advanced features it more than makes up for in sheer sturdiness.
  • Easy to assemble. Unlike larger treadmills, the Weslo Cadence R 5.2 can be assembled by just one person, without the need of any special tools. The user manual is also quite helpful and easy to understand.
  • Surprising workout variety. While it may seem like this treadmill model is somewhat stripped down, the Weslo Cadence R 5.2 comes with six pre-set speed programs. Three of these are weight loss programs and the rest are intensity sequences. There is also a DIY mode that enables you to manually override the pre-sets by slowing down or speeding up to adjust it to your routine. These features are more than enough for a beginner to get started, or an experienced trainer to maintain their fitness at home.

CONS:

  • Difficult to use by very tall people. This Weslo treadmill is aimed at users of all heights. However, one Weslo Cadence R 5.2 treadmill review pointed out that the control panel is not very user-friendly with people over 6 feet tall. If you’re taller and you want to grip the handlebars, you’re going to have to bend over.
  • Can get noisy. Compared with more expensive treadmills, the Weslo Cadence G 5.2 treadmill can get a bit noisy, but the sound is not too loud and can be covered by head phones.
  • Narrow belt. The width of the belt can be too narrow for some runners. If you’re used to jogging outside or running on a wider treadmill at the gym, adjusting to the Weslo Cadence R 5.2 belt might take some time and patience.

User Reviews

The Weslo Cadence R 5.2 treadmill has mixed reviews.  According to one Amazon Weslo Cadence treadmill review, the buttons are not very responsive and you need to push them a few times before the control panel picks up the command and the speed finally decreases or increase. Just like its predecessor, Weslo Cadence G40, this treadmill doesn’t come with an automatic incline feature. If you want to manually incline the Weslo Cadence R 5.2, you can choose between two adjustable positions. Another user mentioned the low-quality LCD panel which doesn’t light up. While it does a good enough job at tracking the distance, the speed and the calories you burn during a session, the console display looks like it’s turned off if you’re not looking carefully.

However, in spite of these complaints, the Weslo Cadence R 5.2 treadmill performs well as far as its basic functions are concerned. The short warranty was not an issue for most users. The Weslo Cadence R 5.2 treadmill has a long lifespan if it is maintained properly.

Our Recommendation

Overall, the entry-level Weslo Cadence R 5.2 is one of the best in this price range. Sporting a foldable platform makes it ideal for small home gyms, while the cell cushioning makes it perfect for beginners or people with joint problems. The useful LCD helps you keep track of the distance you’ve ran and the calories you’ve burnt. The few drawbacks are not necessarily deal breakers. If you don’t mind manually inclining your treadmill, then Weslo Cadence R 5.2 treadmill is the perfect low-cost equipment for walking and jogging.
